The Hitmen general manager began playing his 6th season in the IMBA (With some comings and goings) looking to build what he once had. 5 seasons played under Jim L has lead to one world title in his only playoff appearance and 4 losing seasons. Feeling like he has the potential to possibly fight for the 8 or 9 seed our main focus in the draft was building for next year and beyond.
Opening Series Games 1 through 4 versus the Bail Bonds (Tim)
Game 1
The opening matchup say the Hitmen send Aaron Nola to the mound against Ty Blach. The first 7 innings went back and forth with both teams scoring 1 run in 4 seperate innings leaving the game at the end of 7 tied 4-4 and putting it in the hands of the pen. The Hitmen would strike in the 9th to break the tie on a Michael Conforto solo home run followed by a 2 rbi double from Yuleski Gurriel. That 7-4 lead would hold up and the hitmen would take the opener 7-4. Gurriel was the star of the show as he went 5 for 5 with 2 home runs, 2 doubles, a single, 4 rbi, and 3 run scored. He missed a home run to 12 in the 9th to avoid a 3 home run game.
HITMEN 1-0
Game 2
Game 2 saw the HItmen send Alex Cobb to the mound against Max Scherzer in a game that felt over before it began. Scherzer did what he does best and baffled the Hitmen bats all game long. He pitched a complete game shutout only allowing 2 hits and overcoming 3 errors by his teammates for a 3-0 win. Cameron Maybin was the hitting star for the Bail Bonds with a big 2 run rbi double in the 2nd inning and that was all they needed.
HITMEN 1-1
Game 3
The third game say the Hitmen send K Meada to the mound to square off against the Bonds first round pick Zach Godley. This was a very tight affair much like the first game going back and forth and went into extra innings tied at 3-3. IN the top of the 10th the Bonds had 2 on and 1 out and Dustin Pedroia hit into a double play to help the Hitmen survive the inning. With their last pitcher in the game the HItmen needed to win the game fast and they did just that as in the bottom of the 10th Yuleski Gurriel was at it once again as he mashed a game winning solo home run to give the hitmen the 4-3 win.
HITMEN 2-1
Game 4
The final game of the series and season between these two teams saw the Hitmen send up Jose Urena against Blake Snell. The Hitmen were able to get to snell early and often putting up 3 in the third, 1 in the 4th, and 3 in the 5th and that would be all they needed as Urena went 8 strong innings and the hitmen behind two Ian Kinsler home runs won the game 7-1 and took the series 3 games to 1.
